As in the Days of Noah: Nephilim, Watchers & the Coming Deception

What does it mean when Jesus said the end times would be “as in the days of Noah”? This phrase, found in Matthew 24:37, points to a mysterious and sobering era of deep corruption, strange beings, and divine judgment. In this episode of The Radiant Mission Podcast, we’re diving deeper into what the Bible and extra-biblical texts like the Book of Enoch reveal about the Nephilim, the Watchers, and how their influence may not be ancient history—but present reality.

The keyword as in the days of Noah sets the stage for one of the most chilling warnings in Scripture. Just as in Noah’s time, we see a culture steeped in rebellion against God, extreme moral decay, and perhaps even tampering with human nature itself.

What Was Happening on Earth in the Days of Noah?

Genesis 6 gives us a snapshot of the spiritual climate before the flood. Humanity wasn’t just sinful—it was “continually wicked” (Genesis 6:5). The sons of God (interpreted by many as fallen angels or Watchers) mated with human women, producing giants—Nephilim—who filled the earth with violence and corruption.

But the depravity may have gone even further. Some ancient texts and theories suggest these angelic beings mated with animals, producing hybrid creatures—possibly the origin of the strange gods and half-human, half-animal myths found in global cultures.

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah, which took place during this same general time period, gives us another example of how sexual sin, violence, and rebellion permeated society. These weren’t isolated cities—they reflected a larger pattern of wickedness that grieved God’s heart.

Who Were the Watchers? And What Were Their Sins?

The Book of Enoch names several of these fallen angels, including Semjaza, Azazel, Arakiel, Kokabel, and others. These were once heavenly beings who descended to earth, violated divine boundaries, and taught humanity forbidden knowledge—such as sorcery, astrology, and weapons of war.

Azazel in particular is tied to teaching mankind the art of war and seduction, contributing to both physical and moral destruction. He’s also connected in some rabbinic writings to the ritual scapegoat offering on Yom Kippur—possibly linking his name to the idea of removing sin.

Some researchers and believers even suggest there’s a connection between the Watchers and the practice of abortion. If their goal was to corrupt God’s design for life, would they not promote the destruction of it in the womb?

Why Was Noah Chosen?

Genesis 6:9 says Noah was “a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time.” But this wasn’t just about moral behavior. The word “blameless” (Hebrew: tamim) can also mean “without blemish,” suggesting that Noah and his family may have remained genetically uncorrupted.

While others may have interbred with Nephilim or taken part in occult practices introduced by the Watchers, Noah remained pure in lineage and faith. His obedience in building the ark wasn’t just about physical salvation—it was a stand against the spiritual rebellion of his age.

How Did the Nephilim Return After the Flood?

Genesis 6:4 says, “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward.” So how could they return if the flood wiped out everyone but Noah’s family?

There are a few theories:

  • Some believe one of Noah’s sons’ wives may have carried Nephilim DNA.
  • Others think fallen angels descended again post-flood and repeated their rebellion.
  • Another view is that Nephilim spirits—the disembodied spirits of the giants—survived as demons and continued to influence humanity.

Regardless of the mechanism, we know from Scripture that giants like the Anakim and Rephaim appeared later in Israel’s history. Goliath is one of the most famous examples, described as a towering warrior with mysterious origins.

Is This Happening Again?

Jesus warned that the end times would mirror the days of Noah. Could we be seeing similar patterns today?

Yes. Consider:

  • Genetic tampering: From CRISPR to human-animal chimera research, science is pushing boundaries never meant to be crossed.
  • Artificial intelligence and transhumanism: Blurring the line between human and machine echoes the quest to “be like gods.”
  • Sexual perversion: Just like Sodom, we see a rise in LGBTQ ideology, gender confusion in children, rampant pornography, and the redefinition of family.
  • Widespread abortion and child sacrifice: The spiritual attack on life itself continues under the guise of “choice.”
  • Global deception: The groundwork for the Mark of the Beast and a one-world system appears more realistic than ever.

This is the coming deception—a spiritual and physical attempt to once again corrupt the image of God in man.

Why This Matters

Understanding the days of Noah isn’t just theological curiosity. It’s a wake-up call. The more we understand what happened then, the more we can discern what’s happening now—and what’s coming next.

We aren’t called to fear. We’re called to be awake. Spiritually alert. Watching, waiting, and ready for Christ’s return. The deception may be coming, but God’s truth remains unchanged. And in the face of darkness, we are called to walk in the light.
