In This Episode on Finding Balance & Joy as a Working Mom:
The Lord gives us all different gifts.
For a working mom, or a work-from-home mom, perseverance is often a trait that can keep us going.
Babysitting as a teenager can help hone the skills needed for balance as a mom or working mom later in life.
Babysitting can provide experience and confidence that will help us easy into motherhood.
Encouraging your own kids to do this can help them greatly later on! Or, if you don’t get have kids yet but plan to, start babysitting now! Snag some new skills and confidence before diving into motherhood.
To be a working mom that also works from home, you have to be flexible.
Being obsessed with a schedule will leave you frustrated and disappointed when it doesn’t go to plan.
The first step to having a good experience as a working mom is choosing to work for a company that is the right company for you. (If applicable.)
Are they supportive of you? Do they support families? There is a trickle-down effect when it comes to the beliefs of the companies we work for and how they feel about families.
Rebecca shares her “why” for not sending her kids to daycare or hiring a nanny.
There are moments and milestones that I do not want to miss with my children while they’re young. I love kids and always dreamed of being a mom. After working my way up the career ladder, I realized that working in an office all day was not for me.
God doesn’t give us what we want when we want it.
First, He gives if it’s according to His will and plan. I prayed for over a year for a job opportunity that was remote and for an employer that was a Christian. After a year, three opportunities popped up. One of the employers was a believer—so that was that!
Some days will be hard. But if you want to be a working mom, it’s about finding the balance with work and with your kids.
It’s important to make the time to shut your computer and be face to face with your kids. Play with them, spend quality time.
Our life experiences help to shape us.
In many ways I (Rebecca) felt like I lived a whole life before I had kids. I didn’t have my first child until I was 33. It allowed me to feel tremendous appreciation and joy when I finally had a child of my own.
Children are a blessing from the Lord.
When we look at it from this perspective, it allows us to find joy.
How can a working mom or work-from-home mom find joy?
Getting to be with my children, getting to experience the milestones, being the one that they turn to—it is an honor. It’s about perspective. We can choose to be angry or frustrated. Or, we can choose joy. When we choose to be grateful, we choose joy.
We only have little kids for a few years. It’s important to seek to find balance to spend with our children.
Find times to connect and have 1-1 time with your children. There are always ways to find ways to connect, even if it’s cooking!
Mindset is so important. We get to choose our mindset.
Bible Verses Mentioned on Finding Balance & Joy as a Working Mom:
James 1:2-4
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
Hebrews 13:21
May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.
