Where Did God Come From? Exploring the Eternal Nature of Our Creator | TRM Pod Ep 153

Where did God come from? It’s one of the most common—and most challenging—questions about faith. The Bible teaches that God is eternal, without beginning or end. He exists outside of time, uncreated and uncaused. This truth is central to understanding not only who God is, but also how we relate to Him.

God Exists Outside of Time

Scripture repeatedly affirms that God’s eternal nature sets Him apart from all creation. Psalm 90:2 declares, “Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.” God is not bound by the limitations of time the way we are. Time itself is part of His creation. Just as an artist exists outside the canvas, God exists beyond the timeline of human history.

The Uncaused Cause

Philosophers and theologians have often referred to God as the “First Cause” or “Uncaused Cause.” Everything that begins to exist must have a cause—but God never began to exist. This is not just a theological claim but a logical necessity. If we trace causes backward—person to parent, seed to plant, star to explosion—there must be a starting point that itself had no cause. God is that point. He is the eternal source from which everything flows.

The Meaning of God’s Eternal Nature

God’s eternal nature means He is unchanging, trustworthy, and always present. Unlike creation, which ages, fades, and changes, God remains constant. Malachi 3:6 reminds us: “I the Lord do not change.” His promises are not subject to time limits. His love doesn’t expire. And His purposes are not derailed by shifting cultures or centuries.

This truth should bring us great comfort. The same God who spoke to Abraham is the God who hears our prayers today. The same power that created the universe sustains us now and will hold us forever.

Why This Matters for Us

When we grasp that God had no beginning and will have no end, our perspective on life changes. Temporary struggles don’t feel quite as overwhelming when viewed against eternity. Obedience becomes more urgent when we realize we serve the everlasting King. And worship takes on new depth when we acknowledge that we are in relationship with the One who always was, is, and will be.

Bible Verses About God’s Eternal Nature

  • Psalm 90:2 – “Before the mountains were born… from everlasting to everlasting You are God.”
  • Revelation 1:8 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega… who is, and who was, and who is to come.”
  • Isaiah 40:28 – “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.”
