Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 13, we talk to a very special guest, Lea Peterson, about her journey with trying to conceive and what she learned along the way about marriage, health, birth, and more.

In This Episode on Trying to Conceive: Trusting God’s Timing with Lea Peterson:

Lea’s 7–8-year journey with trying to conceive

We are all children of God and He made our bodies perfectly. We are fearfully and wonderfully made!

There are spiritual aspects to conception that are beyond the physical. The mainstream perspective surrounding infertility often promotes a victim mentality. But there are two ways to look at it: why is God doing this to me vs. everything is for me and God is doing this for me.

In the process of waiting to conceive learned more about home birth and free birth. Lea loves the radical responsibility surrounding free birth.

She is not reaching to science to “save” her and help her get pregnant. She is waiting on the Lord’s timing.

Rachel’s secondary infertility struggles and lessons learned

She learned that God is good no matter what. Even if He doesn’t give us what we want, continuing to put our faith in Him.

At the end of the day, we were not placed here on earth to be mothers or anything else. We were placed here to be children of God.

There is a difference between an expectation and a hope. Learning to trust God without expectation, even if we don’t get what we hope for. But that’s what trust is, it’s faith without expectation.

What is the behavior of surrender? It’s a mind shift and feeling of peace.

We all have our own unique learning moments

Pregnancy complications, infertility, marriage issues, birth trauma—they all provide opportunities for us to lean into the Lord for guidance. All of these issues provide us an opportunity to learn and grow.

We are all at the mercy of spiritual warfare, it just looks different to different people.

Our feelings don’t change the Word of God. YHWH is our source of joy! His promises aren’t all the same but He does promise to be our joy when we delight in Him.

Hormone health is so important. Our bodies know what they’re doing, it’s our minds that need to be reconnected and retrained. Most of us don’t know our bodies until it’s time to have a baby.

Our bodies are in a constant state of healing. We’re either feeding healing or feeding sickness and disease.

Bible Verses Mentioned in this Episode on Trying to Conceive:

Daniel 3:16-18:

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we don’t need to explain these things to you. If you throw us into the hot furnace, the God we serve can save us. And if he wants to, he can save us from your power. But even if God does not save us, we want you to know, King, that we refuse to serve your gods. We will not worship the gold idol you have set up.”

Psalm 113:9:

He grants the [b]barren woman a home,
Like a joyful mother of children.

Praise the Lord!

Genesis 1:27-30:

So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Psalm 27:14:

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.
