Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 32 we transition into a new mini-series that’s focused on the Bible and Biblical traditions, including Rachel’s experience rediscovering the Bible. In the coming episodes we’ll be talking about the Biblical Sabbath and the Biblical Feasts. These are both traditions that our lovely co-host Rachel has adopted over the recent years.

In This Episode on Rediscovering the Bible:

It all began when Rachel read her Bible.

We grew up with traditional Christian values often found inside regular Christian churches. You might find this in a Nondenominational church, a Baptist church, a Presbyterian church, and so on.

As adults, Rachel and her husband rediscovered church and were very much baby believers again.

What is “the church?” Is it a place?

There is a misconception that church is a place that you go on Sundays. A building where you sing and worship and are fed a feel-good message from a pastor on the stage.

The truth is, a church is not a place or a building. It’s the people of God. Church, or ecclesia, means assembly. It’s people gathering together to worship and isn’t limited to a specific building.

There seems to be this idea that God’s spirit perpetuates in a building, and that’s simply not true. When Jesus was on the cross the veil of the temple split, His spirit left, and it was no longer there anymore. When he ascended into heaven, His spirit was to dwell in our fleshly temples. There is no longer any significance to any building.

YHWH is within us.

During this time, the Lord was working inside of Rachel.

She had a prayer closet where she became focused on rediscovering the Bible. She read the whole Bible and read The New Testament first, then the Old Testament.

After reading it this way, she would recommend starting in Genesis since the New Testament is based on knowing the Old Testament.

It took 2.5-3 years to read as she was really studying and not rushing through.

During this time, it made her feel conviction.

Easter became a holiday that she enjoyed celebrating until she realized that there were not three days between Good Friday (Jesus’ death) and Easter (Jesus’ Resurrection) as we are told in the Bible.

Good Friday was simply a day that was chosen by the Catholic church to commemorate Jesus’ death.

This led to the question: why are we doing the things that we’re doing in church? Is it because the Bible says to? Or is it because of traditions that men created?

This led Rachel and her husband to look for a Biblically sound church. And they found one. But what was happening in her prayer closet and what was happening in church weren’t lining up.

Shortly after, she started to notice some corruption within this church. She also felt the Holy Spirit nudging her about the worship music and realized it was discernment cropping up.

The concert-like environment in many churches is focused on the Seeker-Sensitive Movement.

It’s focused on attendance and those seeking. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however it can be at some point.

Then, the world shut down because of Covid. This gave Rachel a conviction to study and celebrate Passover instead of Easter.

She started praying for discernment and to bring her family to community that would teach her how to celebrate Passover and the Biblical Feasts.

This led to a new journey for Rachel, her husband, and their family.

There were a thousand little moments, but it all started with reading her Bible.
