Don’t Be Deceived by the New Age | TRM Podcast Ep 151

The New Age movement has gained momentum in recent years, often wrapped in positivity, healing, and personal empowerment. But underneath the attractive surface lies a deeper danger—one that many Christians overlook. In this episode of The Radiant Mission Podcast, we explore the truth behind New Age deception and why believers must stay alert.

From astrology and manifestation to energy healing and channeling spirits, these practices are everywhere—from yoga studios to TikTok trends. Even believers may unknowingly participate in these rituals, thinking they’re harmless or even aligned with Scripture.

But what does the Bible actually say?

Recognizing the Appeal of New Age Deception

One reason New Age deception is so powerful is because it often mimics truth. It promises peace, power, healing, and enlightenment—all things our souls deeply desire. But instead of leading us to God, it leads us inward or toward counterfeit spirits.

Popular phrases like “I’m manifesting it,” “I’m raising my vibration,” or “I believe in the universe’s plan” are rooted in spiritual practices that bypass Christ. This is the crux of the issue: these movements draw people away from the truth of the Gospel and into spiritual error.

Common New Age Practices Christians Should Avoid

While many of these practices are marketed as wellness or personal growth, they often have occult roots. Some examples we cover in the episode include:

  • Astrology: Reading horoscopes or identifying with a zodiac sign
  • Manifestation: Believing your thoughts create your reality
  • Energy Healing: Practices like Reiki that claim to channel universal life force
  • Mediumship: Communicating with the dead or receiving guidance from “spirit guides”
  • Christ Consciousness: A false version of Jesus that promotes enlightenment over salvation

Each of these is a form of New Age deception that pulls our focus away from Jesus and toward self or spiritual counterfeits.

The Bible’s Warnings Against Spiritual Counterfeits

Scripture is clear: believers are not to engage in divination, witchcraft, or any form of sorcery. In Deuteronomy 18:10–12, God warns His people not to practice these things because they are detestable to Him.

We also read in Colossians 2:8, “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit… rather than according to Christ.”

New Age deception often disguises itself as truth, but it leads to spiritual bondage. Many former psychics and witches, like Jenn Nizza and Doreen Virtue, have come to Christ and now speak openly about how dark and deceptive these practices truly are.

Why It Matters: Discerning the Spirit of This Age

This isn’t just about avoiding certain practices—it’s about guarding our hearts and minds from the spirit of the age. The Bible warns that even Satan masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). What feels beautiful or empowering isn’t always from God.

Today, being a “witch” is trendy. Mediums are featured on shows like 90 Day Fiancé. Even children’s content includes messages of magic, energy, and manifesting. These aren’t just harmless fun; they are a slow erosion of spiritual truth.

The enemy’s goal is always to twist what God has made and offer counterfeit versions. New Age deception thrives when Christians aren’t grounded in Scripture.

What You Can Do

  1. Stay in the Word of God daily.
  2. Test every spiritual teaching or trend against Scripture.
  3. Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment.
  4. Be willing to walk away from popular trends that don’t align with God’s truth.
  5. Share truth with others who may be unknowingly deceived.

We hope this episode equips you with the clarity and boldness to stand firm in truth.
