In a world full of opinions and changing values, one question remains at the heart of Christianity:
Is the Bible the Word of God?
If it is, then everything it says matters. If it’s not, then we’re left building our lives on shifting sand. In this article, based on Episode 140 of The Radiant Mission Podcast, we explore why the Bible is more than just an ancient book — it’s the living, trustworthy, and authoritative Word of God.
What Does the Bible Say About Itself?
Before we talk about what others say, we need to look at what the Bible says about itself.
📖 2 Timothy 3:16–17 says:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
📖 Hebrews 4:12 adds:
“The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…”
Scripture doesn’t claim to be good advice. It claims to be alive, divinely inspired, and full of power.
Jesus Himself affirmed Scripture repeatedly, calling it truth.
📖 Matthew 5:18 — “Not a jot or tittle will pass from the Law until all is fulfilled.”
Who Wrote the Bible and How Was It Preserved?
The Bible was written over a span of 1,500 years by more than 40 different authors on three continents. Despite that, it tells one unified story — the redemption of humanity through Jesus Christ.
📖 2 Peter 1:21 says:
“Prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
The Bible wasn’t just written by men. It was breathed by God.
And when it comes to preservation, the evidence is overwhelming:
- Over 5,800 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament
- Countless quotes from early church fathers
- The Dead Sea Scrolls, showing near-identical copies of Old Testament texts
It is the most historically supported document of antiquity.
Fulfilled Prophecy: Proof the Bible Is Divine
One of the most powerful validations of Scripture is prophecy.
Hundreds of Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled in the life of Jesus.
Examples include:
- Born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14)
- Born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)
- Rejected by His people (Isaiah 53:3)
- Pierced and crucified (Isaiah 53:5)
- Buried in a rich man’s tomb (Isaiah 53:9)
- Resurrected (Psalm 16:10)
📖 John 5:39 — “These are the very Scriptures that testify about me.”
These weren’t vague predictions. They were detailed, written centuries in advance, and fulfilled perfectly in Christ.
Is the Bible Still Relevant Today?
Yes — more than ever.
The Bible speaks to our deepest questions:
- Who am I?
- Why do I struggle with sin?
- What’s the purpose of life?
- How can I find peace and hope?
📖 Psalm 119:105 — “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
📖 Isaiah 40:8 — “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever.”
Truth doesn’t expire. God’s Word is still the foundation we need in a shifting world.
Why Do People Reject the Bible?
Because it confronts sin. It speaks truth in love — but that truth is uncomfortable.
📖 Hebrews 4:12 says it “judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
📖 John 17:17 — “Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth.”
In a world that says “follow your heart,” the Bible calls us to follow Christ — and that’s countercultural.
Can We Trust the Bible Today?
Yes. Here’s why:
- It’s internally consistent despite its diversity of authorship
- It’s historically supported through archaeology and manuscripts
- It’s prophetically fulfilled with incredible detail
- It’s spiritually transforming in lives around the world
📖 Romans 10:17 — “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ.”
The Bible is not outdated. It’s eternal.
Final Thoughts
So, is the Bible the Word of God?
Yes. And you can trust it — not just for theology, but for your life.
If you’ve ever doubted the Bible’s reliability or wondered if it still speaks today, this is your reminder:
God has not stopped speaking. He still speaks through His Word.
Reflection Questions
- Do I treat the Bible as God’s voice or just another opinion?
- Have I built my beliefs around Scripture — or around culture?
- What truth from God’s Word do I need to realign with today?
- How can I make time to engage Scripture more deeply this week?
