Who is the Holy Spirit—and what role does He play in the life of a Christian?
In this episode of The Radiant Mission Podcast, we explore this vital question that many believers ask but struggle to fully grasp. We walk through Scripture to understand not only who the Holy Spirit is, but how He operates in our lives, and why acknowledging His presence is key to living a Spirit-led life.
The Holy Spirit Is God
The Holy Spirit isn’t a feeling or vague spiritual force—He is God. He is the third Person of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Just as Jesus and the Father are one, the Holy Spirit is also fully divine, uncreated, eternal, and active from the beginning (Genesis 1:2).
He Dwells Within Believers
When you surrender your life to Jesus, you are sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). He comes to dwell within you—not temporarily, but as a permanent mark of your salvation. You are now the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).
He Leads, Guides, and Transforms
The Holy Spirit plays an active role in sanctifying us. He convicts us of sin (John 16:8), reminds us of God’s truth (John 14:26), empowers us to obey, and produces spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Can We Lose the Holy Spirit?
For true believers, the Holy Spirit is permanent. But we can grieve Him (Ephesians 4:30) or resist His leading by walking in the flesh (Galatians 5:16). This is why some Christians feel spiritually dry or distant from God—it’s not that the Holy Spirit left, but that His voice has been muted by sin or neglect.
What Does It Mean to Grieve the Holy Spirit?
Grieving the Holy Spirit means living in a way that opposes His nature—through bitterness, rage, slander, and unrepentant sin (Ephesians 4:29–31). It damages intimacy with God and disrupts our spiritual growth.
The Difference Between the Holy Spirit and Other Spirits
We live in a spiritual realm, where not all spirits are holy. The Holy Spirit is set apart—He is God. Other spirits, like demons, are fallen angels working against God’s will. While the Holy Spirit leads into truth, other spirits deceive, tempt, and oppress. Christians must learn to discern spirits and align with the Holy One (1 John 4:1).
The Holy Spirit Produces Fruit
Evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work is seen in our lives through fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). These aren’t produced by striving but by surrender.
Can Demonic Spirits Influence Believers?
Christians cannot be possessed by demons, but they can be oppressed or influenced—especially if they open spiritual doors through sin, trauma, or deception. We discuss this deeper in Episodes 3–6 and 139. Walking in the Spirit is our defense against spiritual attack.
Living Spirit-Led Every Day
The Holy Spirit is not just for emotional moments in worship or rare spiritual highs—He is present in the everyday. He guides your decisions, softens your heart, corrects your path, and comforts you in pain.
The more you yield to Him, the more powerfully He works through you.
Conclusion
The Holy Spirit is God within you. He isn’t distant, silent, or passive. He is near, active, and constantly drawing you closer to Jesus.
