Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.
In Episode 12, we talk to a very special guest: Brittany McCardle of The Biblical Birth School. She is a wealth of knowledge on all things birth and the Bible.
In This Episode on Biblical Birth: Breaking Down Genesis 3 & Birth Misconceptions:
- What are the biggest misconceptions about birth today?
- That women are “cursed” (Genesis 3).
- “What happened after Eve ate the forbidden fruit.”
- It’s important to choose a version of the Bible that’s closest to the original version (Hebrew) such as King James or others. Different versions of the Bible can change meaning.
- Genesis 3:16 might read “her labor pains will increase” as opposed to versions of the Bible that are more word for word and will read “her conception and sorrow is increased.” This greatly changes the context of this verse.
- The Bible says that God only cursed two specific things: the serpent and the ground. Eve (woman) and her body were not directly cursed. We also read that the ground was cursed “for Adam’s sake,” an important phrase that we do not see with Eve at all. Nothing was cursed “for woman’s sake” or “for Eve’s sake.” That’s a significant omission.
- We see the very first prophecy of the Messiah. John 3:16 is a promise and Genesis 3:16 is also a promise.
- Words of advice
- Treat your pregnancy how you want your birth to go. Who you hire will impact your birth experience. If you don’t want interventions during your birth, avoid interventions during your pregnancy.
- It’s easy to be swayed by doctors and tests, be cautious. Put your trust in the Lord. Fear can fuel the alternative.
- Children allow us to have victory over the spiritual war we are in.
Bible Verses Mentioned:
Genesis 3:15-17 (New King James Version)
And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”
16 To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;
Your desire shall be [a]for your husband,
And he shall rule over you.”
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
“Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.
Hebrews 10:23 (New King James Version)
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
John 3:16 (New King James Version)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Revelation 12:1-6 (New King James Version)
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2 Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.
3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Leviticus 12:1-8 (New King James Version)
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a woman has conceived, and borne a male child, then she shall be [a]unclean seven days; as in the days of her customary impurity she shall be unclean. 3 And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. 4 She shall then continue in the blood of her purification thirty-three days. She shall not touch any [b]hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary until the days of her purification are fulfilled.
5 ‘But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her customary impurity, and she shall continue in the blood of her purification sixty-six days.
6 ‘When the days of her purification are fulfilled, whether for a son or a daughter, she shall bring to the priest a lamb [c]of the first year as a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove as a sin offering, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 7 Then he shall offer it before the Lord, and make [d]atonement for her. And she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who has borne a male or a female.
8 ‘And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be [e]clean.’ ”
Psalm 127:3-5 (New King James Version)
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Matthew 5:5 (New King James Version)
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
